Packaging reduction and documented environmental claims.
Sustainability in contract manufacturing is mostly operational: how much packaging a SKU actually needs, where energy is wasted, and whether a material can be recycled in the market it ships to. We would rather show the work than buy a green badge.
Where measurable reductions are achievable.
Packaging reduction
Right-sizing cartons, removing unnecessary leaflets, switching to mono-material where the barrier allows, and testing refill or larger-pack formats with brands.
Energy & water
Sub-metering on the largest loads, compressed-air leak checks, and scheduling high-demand lines to avoid peak tariffs.
Responsible sourcing
Supplier qualification includes origin, allergen, adulteration and labour-risk screening. Palm-derived excipients are reviewed for RSPO status.
Waste segregation
Segregated streams for API dust, packaging film, cardboard, glass and general waste, with monthly tonnage recorded by stream.
Metrics and reporting schedule.
These are operating targets, not marketing claims. The baseline year and verified figures are shared with clients during supplier qualification.
- Packaging baseline
- Record grammage per SKU for the top 50 products, then set a reduction target by format.
- Recyclable content
- Increase mono-material and widely recyclable options in the standard packaging library.
- Energy intensity
- Track kWh per 1,000 units by line; target reduction from sub-metering and leak repair.
- Supplier screening
- Add origin, allergen and labour-risk questions to every new raw-material qualification.
- Waste reporting
- Monthly tonnage by stream, reviewed at management level and available to clients on request.
We do not use 'eco-friendly', 'carbon neutral' or 'plastic-free' as generic claims. If a claim appears on your pack, it needs a defined scope and evidence.
Environmental claims require supporting documents.
Regulators in the EU, UK and US are increasingly treating environmental claims as product claims. A supplier that prints 'sustainable packaging' without a basis creates a liability for the brand, not just for itself.
Our rule is simple: a claim must name the material, the scope and the evidence. 'Carton made from 80% recycled fibre, FSC-certified, recyclable in kerbside collection' is a claim we can support. 'Eco-friendly pack' is not.
If your market requires a specific certification — FSC, RSPO, OK Compost or a carbon-footprint verification — tell us at the brief stage. Retrofitting a certified material after artwork approval usually adds weeks.
Questions from brand owners.
Can you supply plastic-free packaging?
Sometimes. Glass, aluminium, paper-based tubes and refill formats exist, but barrier and shelf-life requirements often decide the answer. We test the product in the proposed pack before promising a switch.
Do you have a carbon footprint number?
We can calculate a product-level footprint with a defined boundary (cradle-to-gate) for a specific SKU. It is a project, not a generic figure we can put on a page.
Is your palm oil RSPO certified?
We review the RSPO status of palm-derived excipients per supplier and per formula. If your market requires certified sustainable palm, we source against that requirement and provide the documentation.
