Chewable Manufacturer for Dietary Supplements

Overview

Chewables are a delivery format, not a single product. A children's multivitamin, an adult immunity chew and a sugar-free probiotic chew each need different binders, sweeteners and compression settings. Our plant in Guangdong runs dedicated chewable lines for both compressed tablets and deposited soft chews, with in-house flavour and colour matching. Brands come to us when they need a format that is easier to take than a capsule and easier to scale than a gummy pilot.

Chewable production capacity and formats

We run two chewable lines: a rotary tablet press for compressed chews and a depositing line for soft chews. Compressed chewables typically run at 30,000–60,000 tablets per hour depending on size and hardness. Soft chews run at 8,000–12,000 pieces per hour. Tooling is available for round, square, heart and animal shapes from 500 mg to 2,000 mg per piece.

Bottling is in-line. We fill HDPE bottles from 30 to 120 count, apply induction seals, and label to your artwork. Blister and sachet formats are available for sample kits and travel packs. If you are moving a product from capsule to chewable, we can match the active dose per serving and adjust the base to keep the same label claim. Most changeovers take 3–5 working days for a new tooling set.

Formulation for taste, texture and stability

Chewables live or die on mouthfeel. We use sugar alcohols such as sorbitol, xylitol and mannitol, or sucrose for standard formulas. Binders include microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin and gum arabic. For soft chews we work with gelatin, pectin and starch bases. Flavour systems are matched to your target profile: fruit, mint, vanilla or neutral. We can mask off-notes from vitamins, minerals, botanicals and omega-3s.

Stability is tested at 25°C/60% RH and 40°C/75% RH for 3 and 6 months. We check hardness, friability, moisture, colour and active content. If an ingredient is heat-sensitive or hygroscopic, we adjust the process temperature and packaging barrier. For vegan claims, we source certified inputs and keep them on separate lines to avoid cross-contact.

Quality, compliance and shipping

The facility is GMP-certified and holds ISO 22000 and HACCP. We are FDA-registered for dietary supplements. halal and vegan certifications are available per project. Every batch has a certificate of analysis covering identity, potency, microbials, heavy metals and residual solvents where applicable. We retain samples for 2 years.

Shipping is from Shenzhen or Hong Kong. Typical transit is 25–35 days to US West Coast, 30–40 days to EU ports, and 18–25 days to Middle East ports. We handle FOB, CIF and DDP terms. Air freight is available for pilot runs and launch stock. Artwork and label review are done before production, and we provide dieline templates and regulatory support for US, EU and GCC markets.

Chewable quality control and batch documentation

Every chewable batch is tested against a written specification before release. Incoming raw materials are sampled at 100% of containers for identity by FTIR or HPLC, and composite samples are screened for potency, microbials (TPC, yeast and mould, E. coli, Salmonella), heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury) and, where relevant, pesticide residues. Binders, sweeteners and flavours are checked against certificates of analysis and in-house reference standards. Water activity and moisture content are monitored on soft chews because texture and shelf life depend on them.

In-process checks run at defined intervals: weight variation every 15 minutes on compressed chewables, hardness and friability hourly, and disintegration testing on each sub-batch. Deposited soft chews are checked for piece weight, dimensions and texture profile. Finished products are tested for identity and potency of actives, microbial limits, heavy metals, and disintegration or chewability as appropriate. A certificate of analysis (COA) is issued per batch and includes the specification, test methods, results, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, and a release signature.

Retention samples of each batch are stored at labelled conditions for the shelf life plus 12 months. Stability studies follow ICH climatic zone II conditions (25°C/60% RH) with accelerated testing at 40°C/75% RH for six months. Chewables are also checked for moisture migration, colour change and flavour degradation at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Any out-of-specification result triggers an investigation and a documented deviation before release.

Batch records include raw material lot traceability, equipment logs, line clearance records, in-process data and yield reconciliation. These records are retained for at least five years and are available for customer audits. Environmental monitoring in chewable production areas covers air particulate counts and surface swabs for microbial contamination on a defined schedule.

Chewable packaging, labelling and retail readiness

Chewables are packed in HDPE bottles with induction seals and child-resistant or standard closures, PET jars, blister packs (PVC/PVDC or alu-alu), stick packs and sachets. Bottle fill weights range from 30 to 120 count, with desiccant options for moisture-sensitive soft chews. Blister and stick formats suit single-dose or travel packs. Cartons are specified with board grade, print process and palletisation pattern; standard export cartons hold 12 to 48 retail units and pallets are configured to 1,000 to 1,200 kg with stretch wrap and edge protectors.

Labels for the US market include the statement of identity, net quantity, supplement facts panel with serving size and percent daily value, other ingredients list, suggested use, and the manufacturer or distributor address. Allergen declarations follow FALCPA requirements. Lot number and expiry date are inkjet or laser coded on the bottle, carton and, where required, the foil. We can apply Amazon FNSKU labels, retail compliance labels and any customer-supplied barcodes under a documented label verification process.

For EU and UK markets, labels include the nutrition declaration, permissible health claims, and the food business operator address. We do not draft claims but verify that supplied artwork complies with the agreed specification. Artwork proofing includes a pre-press check for barcode scannability, font size and mandatory statements before printing. Packaging components are inspected for dimensional conformity and seal integrity on receipt and during production.

Chewable MOQ, lead times and delivery terms

Sampling for chewable supplements typically takes 7 to 10 working days after formula and specification sign-off. Samples are supplied with a draft COA and a packaging mock-up where requested. Once the sample is approved in writing and the deposit is received, mass production runs 20 to 35 working days depending on format, flavour complexity and packaging. Pilot runs below standard MOQ are possible but carry a separate setup charge and longer scheduling.

Shipments are arranged by air or sea. Air freight from Guangdong to Europe or North America takes 5 to 10 days door to door; sea freight takes 25 to 40 days port to port depending on destination. We quote EXW, FOB Shenzhen or Hong Kong, and DDP for customers who require delivered duty paid terms. Carton dimensions and gross weights are confirmed before booking, and we can palletise to customer or retailer requirements.

Shipping documents include the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, certificate of analysis per batch, material safety data sheet where applicable, and a free-sale certificate. Phytosanitary certificates are provided for plant-derived ingredients where the destination requires them. Certificates of origin can be issued on request. We do not arrange product registration in the destination country; that remains the brand owner's responsibility.

Questions buyers ask.

What is the minimum order for chewable supplements?+

MOQ is 1,000 units per SKU for retail bottling. Lower quantities are possible for pilot runs, typically 500–1,000 units, but unit cost is higher. We confirm MOQ after reviewing your target dose, piece weight and packaging format.

How long does sampling take?+

Sample lead time is 7–10 working days from approved brief and raw material availability. This includes a 500–1,000 unit batch, a draft spec sheet and a flavour sample. Shipping is by air courier, usually 3–5 days to the US or EU.

Can you make sugar-free or vegan chewables?+

Yes. Sugar-free compressed chews use sorbitol, xylitol or mannitol. Vegan soft chews use pectin or starch instead of gelatin. We keep certified vegan inputs on separate lines to avoid cross-contact. Certificates are provided per batch.

What certifications does the facility hold?+

GMP, ISO 22000 and HACCP. The facility is FDA-registered for dietary supplements. halal and vegan certifications are available per project. We provide certificates and audit reports on request before you place a PO.

Do you handle packaging and labelling?+

Yes. We fill HDPE bottles, PET jars, blister packs and sachets. Fill weights range from 30 to 120 count. We apply induction seals and labels to your artwork. Dieline templates and label review are provided before production. We can also ship in bulk for local packing.

Can you produce chewables with a sugar-free coating or filling?+

Yes. We use isomalt, maltitol, xylitol and erythritol in compressed chewables and deposited soft chews. Sugar-free formulations require adjustment of binder and moisture to maintain texture, and we test for laxative threshold compliance where polyols exceed 10% of the finished piece. A sugar-free sample is recommended before committing to production.

What is the shelf life of your chewable supplements?+

Typical shelf life is 18 to 24 months for compressed chewables and 12 to 18 months for soft chews, depending on moisture barrier packaging and actives. We confirm shelf life through accelerated and real-time stability data. If you need a specific date code format or a shorter shelf life for retail rotation, we can set the expiry at packing.

Do you offer organic or non-GMO chewables?+

We can source organic-certified ingredients and produce under organic handling procedures where the customer holds the relevant certification. Non-GMO statements are supported by supplier declarations and identity-preserved sourcing. Certification of the finished product remains with the brand owner, and we provide the manufacturing records needed for your certifier.
