Sugar-Coated Chewable Manufacturer for Retail-Ready Supplements

Sugar-Coated Chewable Manufacturer for Retail-Ready Supplements

EUPHM produces sugar-coated chewables in a GMP-certified facility in Guangdong, China. We handle panning, polishing, and packaging for brands in the US, EU, UK, and Middle East. MOQ starts at 1,000 units per SKU.

Overview

Sugar-coated chewables combine a smooth shell with a chewable core. They mask bitter actives, improve mouthfeel, and allow colour coding for product lines. As a contract manufacturer, EUPHM runs sugar panning and film coating on dedicated lines. We support pilot runs from 1,000 units and full production from 1,000 units per SKU. Every batch is tested for weight, hardness, and microbial safety before release.

Panning and Coating Capability

EUPHM operates 12 sugar panning lines with batch capacities from 50 kg to 300 kg. Each line controls temperature, humidity, and rotation speed to build a uniform shell. We apply 8 to 15 coating layers depending on colour and gloss requirements. Typical shell weight gain is 15–30% of the core weight. This gives a smooth, non-sticky surface that resists moisture and extends shelf life to 24 months in proper storage.

Our coating kitchen prepares sugar syrups in-house. We use sucrose or sugar alcohols such as isomalt and maltitol for sugar-free versions. Colourants can be natural (beetroot, spirulina) or synthetic certified lakes. Polishing uses carnauba wax or shellac for a high-shine finish. All equipment is dedicated to chewable production, avoiding cross-contamination with other dosage forms.

Formulation and Active Ingredients

Chewable cores are compressed on rotary tablet presses with force control to achieve 6–12 kp hardness. This range gives a soft chew that breaks down easily but survives coating and packaging. We work with a wide range of actives: vitamins (C, D3, B-complex), minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc), herbal extracts (elderberry, echinacea), and probiotics up to 10 billion CFU per piece. Taste masking uses natural flavours, sweeteners (stevia, sucralose, monk fruit), and acidulants like citric acid.

For sugar-coated chewables, the core must be robust enough to withstand tumbling in the pan. We adjust binder levels (microcrystalline cellulose, gum arabic) and moisture content (below 2%) to prevent chipping. Our R&D team develops 3–5 prototypes per project. You can choose from 20 stock flavours or supply your own. We also offer custom shapes: round, square, animal, or star, with a maximum diameter of 20 mm.

Quality Control and Compliance

Every batch of sugar-coated chewables is tested at three stages: raw material intake, in-process coating, and finished product. We check weight variation (±5%), hardness, disintegration time (less than 30 minutes), and microbial limits (total plate count < 1,000 CFU/g). Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury) are screened per USP <232>. Our facility is FDA-registered and maintains GMP, ISO 22000, and HACCP certifications. halal and vegan certificates are available on request.

Documentation includes Certificate of Analysis, MSDS, flow chart, and allergen statement. We retain samples for 2 years. For US and EU clients, we provide label review against FDA 21 CFR 111 and EU 1169/2011. Shipping terms are FOB Shenzhen or Hong Kong. Lead time for mass production is 20–35 working days after sample approval. We ship to the US, EU, UK, and Middle East via air or sea.

Packaging, Labelling and Retail Readiness

Sugar-coated chewables can be packed in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles with induction seals, blister packs with aluminium foil, stick packs, or sachets. Bottle sizes range from 60 cc to 500 cc, with standard 38-400 mm or 53-400 mm neck finishes. Blister packs use PVC/PVDC or alu-alu material for moisture protection. Stick packs and sachets are typically 5 g to 10 g per unit. We apply lot numbers and expiry dates by inkjet or laser coding on the bottle, label, and carton. Cartons are specified to your retail requirements, with standard pallet configurations of 1,200 to 2,400 units per pallet depending on bottle size.

For the US market, we support FDA dietary-supplement labelling requirements: statement of identity, net quantity of contents, supplement facts panel, ingredient list, allergen declarations, and the mandatory disclaimer. We can generate print-ready artwork from your label copy and verify that all elements are present before printing. For Amazon FNSKU compliance, we apply FNSKU labels or print them directly onto the carton, and we can poly-bag units with the appropriate suffocation warning. Retailer-specific requirements such as Target or Walmart vendor guidelines are reviewed at the artwork approval stage to avoid rework.

We also handle serialisation and aggregation for markets that require it. For the EU, we ensure labels carry the food supplement symbol, recommended daily dose, and a statement that the product is not a substitute for a varied diet. For markets requiring halal marks, we coordinate with certifying bodies and apply the relevant logos only after approval. All packaging materials are food-grade and meet EU 10/2011 and US FDA 21 CFR requirements. Packaging trials are conducted before mass production to confirm that the chewables remain intact during transit and that the seal integrity meets ASTM D3078 standards.

MOQ, Lead Times and Delivery

Sample development for sugar-coated chewables takes 7–10 working days after receipt of your formula and specifications. This includes bench-scale panning, coating trials, and initial testing. If you need custom colours or flavours, add 3–5 working days for matching. Sample quantities are typically 200–500 g, sufficient for sensory evaluation and stability initiation. We provide a sample COA and a preliminary specification sheet with each sample. Courier delivery of samples is by DHL or FedEx, with freight costs quoted at cost.

Mass production lead time is 20–35 working days after sample approval and receipt of a purchase order. This covers raw material procurement, production scheduling, panning, coating, testing, and packaging. If your order requires custom packaging or printed cartons, add 10–15 working days for artwork approval and printing. We provide a production schedule at order confirmation and weekly progress updates. For urgent orders, we can expedite to 15–20 working days subject to line availability and raw material stock.

We offer EXW, FOB, and DDP Incoterms. FOB port is Shenzhen or Hong Kong. Air freight is typically 5–7 days door-to-door for samples and small orders, while sea freight takes 25–35 days to US or EU ports. We provide a full document set with each shipment: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, Certificate of Analysis, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), free-sale certificate, and phytosanitary certificate where applicable. For DDP shipments, we handle customs clearance and delivery to your warehouse, with duties and taxes quoted upfront.

Questions buyers ask.

What is the minimum order quantity for sugar-coated chewables?+

MOQ is 1,000 units per SKU for retail bottling. For pilot runs, we accept 1,000 units. Each SKU can have a different flavour, colour, or shape. MOQ applies per SKU, not per order.

How long does sample development take?+

Sample lead time is 7–10 working days after we receive your brief and raw materials. This includes 3–5 prototypes. Shipping of samples takes 3–5 days via courier. You can request adjustments before mass production.

Can you produce sugar-free chewables?+

Yes. We use isomalt, maltitol, or sorbitol as coating and core sweeteners. Sugar-free versions have 0–2 g net carbs per piece. They are suitable for diabetic-friendly and keto products. Taste and texture are comparable to sugar-coated versions.

What certifications does your facility hold?+

EUPHM is GMP-certified and holds ISO 22000, HACCP, halal and vegan certificates. Our facility is FDA-registered. We provide certificates of analysis and compliance documents for each batch.

What is the shelf life of sugar-coated chewables?+

Shelf life is 24 months when stored below 25°C and 60% relative humidity. The sugar shell protects the core from moisture and oxidation. We recommend packaging in HDPE bottles with induction seals or blister packs for stability.

Can you supply sugar-coated chewables with a custom shape or logo?+

Yes. We can produce chewable cores in custom shapes such as round, oval, square, or animal figures, and we can emboss a logo or text on one or both sides. Custom shape tooling takes 10–15 working days to manufacture and is a one-time cost. Minimum order quantity for custom shapes is 5,000 units per SKU. We provide 3D renderings and sample pieces for approval before production.

What is the typical overage for active ingredients in sugar-coated chewables?+

Overage depends on the stability of the active ingredient and the declared shelf life. For sensitive actives such as probiotics or certain vitamins, we may add 10–30% overage to ensure the label claim is met at expiry. We determine overage based on accelerated and real-time stability data. You approve the overage level during formulation. We do not add overage for actives that are stable, to avoid unnecessary cost.

Do you provide stability testing for sugar-coated chewables after production?+

Yes. We offer stability testing packages that include accelerated and real-time studies. Accelerated testing runs for six months at 40°C/75% RH, with testing at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 6 months. Real-time testing runs for 24 months at 25°C/60% RH and 30°C/65% RH, with testing every three months for the first year and every six months thereafter. We provide a full stability report suitable for regulatory submission.
