Overview

Sourcing fish oil softgels means managing oxidation, fill accuracy and label claims across markets. As a contract manufacturer, we handle omega-3 concentrations from 18/12 to 70/10, enteric coatings and custom flavours. Our softgel lines run at up to 1.2 million capsules per day. Every batch is tested for peroxide value, anisidine value and heavy metals before release. This page covers specifications, formulation options and lead times for retail and private-label buyers.

Softgel Production Capability

Our rotary die encapsulation line handles fish oil fill weights from 500 mg to 1,200 mg. We run 8,000 to 12,000 capsules per hour per line, with two lines dedicated to omega-3 products. Shell formulations use gelatin or vegetarian HPMC. Enteric coating is available for odour control and delayed release. We can produce oblong, oval and round shapes. Drying tunnels maintain 20–25°C and 20–30% relative humidity for 24–48 hours.

For pilot runs, we can produce 1,000 units to validate formulation and packaging. Scale-up to 1,000 units per SKU follows after sample approval. We handle bulk filling into HDPE bottles, blister packs or sachets. Bottle sizes range from 30 to 200 count. Labelling and cartoning are done inline. Lead time from PO to dispatch is 20–35 working days for mass production.

Fish Oil Grades and Formulation Options

We source fish oil from anchovy, sardine and mackerel. Standard grades include 18/12 (180 mg EPA / 120 mg DHA per 1,000 mg) and 33/22. Concentrated grades reach 70/10 or 50/25. Each batch arrives with a certificate of analysis. We test for peroxide value (below 5 meq/kg), anisidine value (below 20) and heavy metals (below 0.1 ppm). Natural vitamin E at 500–1,000 ppm is added as an antioxidant.

Flavoured softgels use natural lemon, orange or mint oils at 0.5–1.5% of fill weight. Enteric-coated softgels resist stomach acid and dissolve in the intestine. We also offer combined formulas: fish oil with vitamin D3 (1,000–2,000 IU), coenzyme Q10 (50–100 mg) or astaxanthin (2–4 mg). For vegan lines, we use algal oil with DHA at 200–400 mg per capsule. All formulas are non-GMO by default.

Quality Control and Compliance

Our facility is GMP-certified and holds ISO 22000 and HACCP. We are FDA-registered for dietary supplements. Each production batch undergoes identity testing, fill weight checks every 30 minutes, and finished-product testing for oxidation, microbials and heavy metals. Stability studies follow ICH guidelines at 25°C/60% RH and 40°C/75% RH for 24 months. Retain samples are kept for two years.

For halal claims, we use certified gelatin and dedicated production runs. Organic certification is available through USDA-accredited bodies. Documentation includes certificate of analysis, MSDS, allergen statements and country-of-origin declarations. We provide full traceability from oil lot to finished bottle. Third-party lab testing can be arranged at buyer's request. We ship FOB Shenzhen or Yantian, with air freight for urgent orders.

Packaging, Labelling and Retail Readiness

Fish oil softgels can be packed in HDPE bottles (30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240 counts), blister packs (10, 12, 15, 30 softgels per blister), stick packs (single softgel per stick), or sachets (2-4 softgels per sachet). Bottles are induction-sealed and include a desiccant canister where required. Blister material options include PVC/PVDC and cold-form foil for moisture-sensitive formulations. Cartons are printed to buyer artwork with lot number and expiry date inkjet-coded on the base.

For US retail, labels must include: statement of identity, net quantity, supplement facts panel, other ingredients, directions, warnings, and manufacturer/distributor name and address. We can format labels to FDA 21 CFR 101 requirements. For Amazon, we apply FNSKU labels and poly-bag each unit if required. Carton specifications: standard export carton is 5-ply, with dimensions and gross weight printed on the side. Pallet configuration is 1,200 x 1,000 mm, shrink-wrapped and strapped, with a maximum height of 1,800 mm.

All packaging components are checked against buyer-approved artwork and specifications before production. Lot and expiry coding is applied to bottles, cartons, and pallets. We provide packaging specifications and dielines for buyer approval. Retail-ready packaging can include tamper-evident seals and child-resistant closures where required by market regulations.

MOQ, Lead Times and Delivery

Sample lead time is 7-10 working days after receipt of specifications and oil source confirmation. Samples are provided free of charge, with courier costs borne by the buyer. Mass production lead time is 20-35 working days after sample approval and receipt of deposit. This includes oil procurement, softgel production, testing, and packaging. For repeat orders with existing artwork and specifications, lead time can be reduced to 15-25 working days.

Shipping options: air freight (3-7 days) for urgent or small orders, sea freight (20-35 days) for larger volumes. We can arrange delivery under EXW, FOB (Shenzhen or Hong Kong), or DDP terms. DDP is available for most major markets, with duties and taxes included in the quoted price. For sea freight, we provide a packing list and commercial invoice for customs clearance.

Documents provided with each shipment: COA, MSDS, free-sale certificate, and phytosanitary certificate where applicable. Certificate of origin can be provided on request. For EU shipments, we provide a statement of compliance with EU regulations. All documents are issued in English and can be legalised or attested if required by the destination country.

Questions buyers ask.

What is the MOQ for fish oil softgels?+

MOQ is 1,000 units per SKU for retail bottling. For pilot runs, we can produce 1,000 units. Lower MOQs apply to bulk orders or when you combine multiple SKUs in one production run.

How long do samples take?+

Sample lead time is 7–10 working days after we receive your specification and deposit. Samples include a certificate of analysis. One revision to formula or shell is free of charge.

What certifications do you hold?+

We are GMP-certified and hold ISO 22000 and HACCP. Our facility is FDA-registered for dietary supplements. Halal and vegan certifications are available on request for specific production runs.

Can you produce enteric-coated fish oil softgels?+

Yes. Enteric coating is available for fill weights 500–1,200 mg. It reduces fishy aftertaste and delays release to the intestine. This adds 3–5 working days to mass production lead time.

What is the mass production lead time?+

Mass production takes 20–35 working days after sample approval and deposit. This covers raw material sourcing, encapsulation, drying, coating (if applicable), packaging and QC release. Air freight can reduce transit time.

Can you supply fish oil softgels in bulk (unpackaged) for local packaging?+

Yes. We can supply bulk softgels in food-grade polyethylene bags inside fibre drums, with a nitrogen flush for oxidation control. Bulk orders typically start at 100 kg. Each drum is labelled with lot number, fill weight, and expiry date. A COA is provided for each lot. This option suits buyers with in-house packaging or repackaging facilities.

What is the shelf life of your fish oil softgels and how is it determined?+

Shelf life is 24 months for standard fish oil softgels and 18 months for enteric-coated or flavoured variants, based on real-time stability data at 25°C/60% RH. Accelerated stability at 40°C/75% RH for 6 months supports the claim. We recommend storage below 25°C in a dry place. Expiry date is printed on each bottle and carton.

Do you offer organic or sustainably sourced fish oil?+

We can source fish oil from fisheries certified by Friend of the Sea or MSC on request. Organic certification is not applicable to fish oil under current EU and US regulations, but we can provide documentation on sourcing and traceability. Please specify your sustainability requirements at the quotation stage, as lead times may vary.
