Overview

Chewable tablets suit children's vitamins, antacids, probiotics and elder-friendly formulas where swallowing a capsule is a barrier. We compress on rotary tablet presses with controlled humidity to prevent sticking and capping. Sugar-free, xylitol, mannitol and sorbitol bases are available, along with natural fruit flavours and colours. Every batch is tested for weight variation, hardness, friability and disintegration before release. The parent tablet line covers coated and uncoated formats.

Chewable Tablet Production Capability

Our rotary tablet presses run at 30-60 strokes per minute, with force feeders and pre-compression to reduce capping on larger chewable formats. We hold granulation rooms at 45-55% relative humidity and 20-24°C to keep hygroscopic actives stable. Tooling is available in round, oval, square and animal shapes, with debossing or score lines. Typical batch sizes range from 50,000 to 500,000 tablets. We run sugar-free and sugar-based bases on separate lines to avoid cross-contact.

For effervescent chewables, we use a separate low-humidity suite and sodium bicarbonate or citric acid bases. Hardness is set between 4-8 kp depending on the chew profile; friability stays under 1% after 100 rotations. Disintegration targets are 15-30 minutes in purified water at 37°C. In-process checks run every 30 minutes on weight, thickness and hardness. This keeps tablet-to-tablet variation within 3% across the run.

Formulation and Flavour Options

Chewable bases include mannitol, sorbitol, xylitol, maltodextrin and microcrystalline cellulose. Mannitol gives a cool mouthfeel and low hygroscopicity; xylitol suits dental-health positioning. Flavour systems cover mixed berry, orange, grape, strawberry, mint and unflavoured. Natural colours come from beetroot, turmeric, spirulina and anthocyanin. We can mask bitter actives such as iron, zinc and B vitamins with a thin lipid coating or a flavour blend. Sweetener options include sucralose, stevia, monk fruit and acesulfame K.

Actives we have compressed into chewables include vitamin C 250-500 mg, vitamin D3 1,000-5,000 IU, zinc 10-20 mg, elderberry 100-300 mg, calcium 500-1,000 mg, probiotics at 1-10 billion CFU, and antacid actives such as calcium carbonate 500-1,000 mg. Overages are applied where stability data supports them. We can also produce vegan chewables using tapioca-based binders and no gelatin, and organic chewables where the actives and excipients hold USDA or EU organic certification.

Quality, Compliance and Logistics

Our facility is GMP-certified and holds ISO 22000 and HACCP. halal and vegan certificates are available per SKU. We are FDA-registered for US imports. Every batch is tested for identity, potency, microbial limits, heavy metals and disintegration. Certificates of analysis are issued before shipment. Stability testing runs at 25°C/60% RH and 40°C/75% RH for 6-24 months, depending on the project. We retain samples for two years. Full traceability runs from raw material lot to finished bottle.

We bottle in HDPE or PET with induction seals, child-resistant caps where required, and desiccant sachets for hygroscopic formulas. Bottle sizes range from 30 to 500 count. Labelling supports US, EU, UK and Middle East regulatory formats, including Supplement Facts, Nutrition Facts, and Arabic-English dual panels. We ship FOB Shenzhen or Yantian, with air freight for pilot runs and sea freight for full containers. Lead time from purchase order to ex-works is 20-35 working days after sample approval.

Quality Control and Batch Documentation

Every chewable tablet batch is sampled at three points: incoming raw materials, in-process compression, and finished goods. Identity testing by FTIR confirms each active and excipient against reference spectra. Potency assays by HPLC or titrimetry verify label claim within 90.0–110.0% for vitamins and 95.0–105.0% for minerals. Microbial testing covers total aerobic count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella, with limits set to USP <2021> or <2022> depending on the matrix. Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury) are screened by ICP-MS against ICH Q3D limits. Disintegration testing follows USP <701> for chewables, typically requiring complete disintegration within 30 minutes in purified water at 37°C, though chewable tablets are often exempt when labelled as such.

In-process controls run every 30 minutes during compression: weight variation on a sample of 20 tablets (individual weights within ±5% of target, RSD ≤3%), hardness by tablet hardness tester (typically 4–10 kp for chewables, adjusted for friability), thickness and friability by USP <1216> (≤1.0% weight loss). At batch completion, a full Certificate of Analysis (COA) is issued, listing tests, specifications, results and acceptance criteria, signed by the QC manager. COAs are available in PDF and can be pre-shipped for retailer approval.

Retention samples of every batch are stored for 24 months post-expiry under controlled conditions (25°C/60% RH and 30°C/65% RH for accelerated). Stability protocols follow ICH Q1A(R2): 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months at long-term conditions, with 0, 3 and 6 months at accelerated. Parameters include appearance, potency, microbial limits, disintegration and moisture. Data packages are available for customer review and support label claims where required.

Packaging, Labelling and Retail Readiness

Chewable tablets can be packed in HDPE bottles (30, 60, 90, 120, 180 and 250 cc) with induction seals and child-resistant or standard caps, in blister packs (PVC/PVDC or alu-alu) for unit-dose compliance, in stick packs for single-serve powders, or in sachets for larger-dose formats. Bottle filling lines handle 30–250 tablets per bottle with desiccant options. Blister lines run 10–30 tablets per card. Stick and sachet lines fill 2–10 g per unit. All primary packaging materials are food-grade and supplied with migration test reports where required.

Labels for the US market include the FDA dietary-supplement facts panel, ingredient list, allergen statement, net quantity, suggested use, and manufacturer/distributor details. We can pre-print lot numbers and expiry dates by inkjet or laser, with format options (DD/MM/YYYY or MM/YYYY) to match retailer requirements. Cartons are specified with dimensions, gross weight and barcode (UPC or EAN). Pallet configurations are standard 1200×1000 mm or 1200×800 mm, stretch-wrapped and labelled with SSCC for warehouse receipt.

For Amazon FNSKU and retail compliance, we apply FNSKU labels to each unit and poly-bag with suffocation warning where required. We can also print retail-ready cartons with case pack quantities and scannable barcodes. Artwork proofing is done in-house with a 24-hour turnaround on label revisions. We do not print claims without substantiation; all label copy is reviewed against the permitted structure/function claims for the destination market.

MOQ, Lead Times and Delivery

Sampling for chewable tablets takes 7–10 working days from receipt of a signed sample request and formulation brief. Samples are supplied with a preliminary COA and packaging options. Mass production runs 20–35 working days after sample approval, depending on tablet count, flavour and packaging complexity. MOQ is 1,000 units per SKU, with lower quantities (1,000 units) available for pilot runs at a higher per-unit cost.
